OAA computing section circular NK 1677 205P/Giacobini (1896 R2 = 2008 R2) [Temporary numbered]

The following improved orbital elements, by S. Nakano, are from 207 observations 1896 to 2008 (cf. 1896/1897 positions were made from Belyaev's orbit on CCO 2003), including planetary perturbations by Mercury to Neptune and three minor planets, Ceres, Pallas, Vesta, and non-gravitational effect of style II. The mean residual is +/- 0.63 arc second. The comet has made 17 revolutions between 1896 and 2008 and passed 0.51 AU from the Earth on 1962 Sept. 8, also 0.89 AU and 0.81 AU from Jupiter on 1932 July 4 and 1992 Jan. 11 UT, respectively.
