Nakano Note (Nakano wa Kangaeru noda) NK 5256 C/2024 L5 (ATLAS)
The following improved orbital elements, by S. Nakano, are from 142 observations 2024 June 14 to July 18. Perturbations by Mercury to Neptune and three minor planets, Ceres, Pallas and Vesta, were taken into account. The mean residual is +/- 0.38 arc second. Orbit is still uncertainty. But the comet has passed around 0.0034 AU from Saturn on 2022 Jan. 24 UT. Also comet will pass 0.60 AU from Jupiter on 2026 Aug. 18 UT. Before a close approach to Saturn in 2022, in the past the comet was a long periodic comet. For example comet had an orbit of T= 1883 07 11, q= 7.240 AU, e= 0.738, Peri.= 250.8, Node= 137.4, i= 157.6, a= 27.65 AU, P= 145.4 years. See an orbit in CBET 5418 (same orbit).
